There may be nothing like returning to at least one’s previous stomping floor and reliving previous reminiscences. Generally, these are fond. However generally, they’re marked with melancholy and a bit of heartbreak. The latter is precisely what Sam Hunt sings about in his new track, “Outskirts.”
Hunt co-wrote the track with Josh Osborne, Jerry Flowers and Zach Crowell, and the pensive mid-tempo tune finds Hunt brooding over how reminiscences of his ex flood him every time he’s within the “outskirts” of city. He’s residing an ideal and busy life within the metropolis with that previous buried, however one way or the other, being again on this previous stomping floor takes him again to a spot of wistfulness.
“However quickly as I get out right here on the outskirts / I want I used to be runnin’ by your own home first / One thing ’bout a summer time within the South, certain / Shines like gold down these previous / Spherical bail river valley backroads / Manner again within the holler the place the grass grows / God almighty, child, we have been that shut / To ditchin’ this city and settlin’ down / Out right here on the outskirts,” Hunt sings within the refrain over brisk drumbeats and mandolin chords.
“Outskirts” is the newest track from Hunt and follows earlier releases “Walmart,” “Start Nowhere,” present single “Water Under the Bridge” and “23.” His most up-to-date album was 2020’s Southside.
Hunt is slated to play a headlining present on the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Friday (March 10). Moreover, this summer time, the “Physique Like a Again Street” singer will hit the highway for his Summer on the Outskirts tour. The multi-city trek kicks off in Hartford, Conn., on July 6, and wraps up in Raleigh, N.C., on Sept. 9. Tickets can be found at Hunt’s website.
