Review: A Soulful Journey Home: The Wiz Captured Hearts in Philadelphia | ThisisRnB.com

With her latest single “Daddy Issues,” singer, songwriter, and actress Diamond White delivers one of her most personal and emotionally gripping tracks yet along with the official accompanying music video— a haunting, heartfelt reflection on growing up without a father and the quiet painful weight that lingers long after.

Diamond’s voice aches with honesty as she admits, “I got daddy issues,” showing us not only her pain but her resilience. She became the breadwinner, the fighter, and the one who stayed strong.

Written by Diamond and produced by her longtime collaborator, Grammy-winner Brian Kennedy, the song floats on experimental, stripped-back production that lets her raw vulnerability take center stage — creating a vulnerable but strong anthem that resonates long after it ends.

This release isn’t just a song — it’s a chapter in her ongoing journey of self-reflection through music. While her previous single “ALLERGIC” peeled back the layers of emotional wounds in romantic relationships, “Daddy Issues” turns inward to explore the pain rooted in family. Together, these tracks mark her return to the music scene since her 2021 debut alt-pop album Summerland, which included fan favorites like “Oh No!” and “Digitally Yours” — both of which have now racked up over a million streams across Spotify and Apple Music.

The official music video, shot on film and directed by Keitaro Howard, is a cinematic glimpse into Diamond’s upbringing in Detroit. The video for “Daddy Issues” is as powerful as the track itself. Portraying her younger self is a little girl navigating the silent confusion and heartbreak  of her father’s absence, while her real-life mother, Debra White, plays herself bringing authentic warmth, quiet strength and grace to the screen.  It’s deeply personal — and profoundly relatable.

The video closes on a moving, real-life moment — Diamond honoring her mother with flowers, thanking her for filling both parental roles with grace and resilience.

“I got daddy issues,” Diamond sings — not as a throwaway line, but as a quiet confession, and a truth many carry but rarely express. Her vocals are as honest as ever, balancing precision with deep emotion — a trait that’s become a hallmark of her work, from “Love Songs 4” to her unforgettable cover of Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down.”

Diamond’s artistry continues to expand beyond music. She’s returning to the big screen this summer as ‘Tiffany’ in Tyler Perry’s upcoming film ‘Madea’s Destination Wedding’, premiering July 11 on Netflix. Diamond recently appeared alongside co-star Xavier Smalls to debut the trailer live at the 2025 BET Awards.

From her breakout role on The Bold and the Beautiful to becoming Marvel’s first Black female animated lead in the Emmy-winning Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, her career is full of momentum — and purpose. Her work on Moon Girl even earned her Best Voice Acting honors at the 51st Annie Awards, standing tall next to icons like Laurence Fishburne and Alfre Woodard.

With “Daddy Issues,” Diamond White reminds us why she’s a voice that matters — not just as a singer, but as a storyteller, a truth-teller, and an artist who’s unafraid to bare her soul. The track is powerful. The video is moving. And the message? Unmistakable.

This is Diamond at her most honest — and we’re listening.
